The world’s oldest blogger, a 108 year old Australian woman, has died after posting a final message about her ailing health. Olive Riley’s blog or “blob” as she jokingly referred to it was called The Life of Riley. Here is apparently her temporary blog as her actual blog was inundated with hits after the story broke. She wrote about her day-to-day life, memories, and posted videos on YouTube. She took up blogging at the suggestion of Mike Rubbo who filmed a documentary on her life four years ago. As he explains he, “First of all, I had to explain to her what a blog was and that took some doing. Then I got across the idea it was sort of a diary that she would share with the world.” Her blog was quite popular as she was apparently quite funny and a great story teller. According to CNN:
Various others have at times been labeled the world’s oldest blogger, including Spain’s Maria Amelia who was born in 1911 and given a blog by “my grandson, who is very stingy.” Riley was 12 years older than Amelia.

This is such a god*amn non-story. The oldest blogger will die every week. What are we going to do? - put the article on weekly rotation, subbing in the name of newest “oldest blogger” to die and their age. Old people die- thats what happens when you get really old. Forcing this into the headlines means that the news will be a dulling and never-ending set of obituaries.
Perhaps the title should have not been “the world’s oldest blogger”, however, the fact that Olive Riley wrote about her day-to-day life, memories, posted videos on YouTube and LIVED to be 108 is pretty darn cool. RIP Olive. RIP.
