The tough economic times across the U.S. and in Silicon Valley are being felt all round. Layoffs are rampant everywhere including high tech - from startups to established giants. Nearly 1.2 million jobs have been lost this year and more than 10 million Americans are now unemployed. Sun announced yesterday that it will be laying off 6K people, eBay, Intuit, and Yahoo have all had layoffs as well, and countless other companies including Web 2.0 companies have shed employees. Women CEOs in Silicon Valley Down To Zero

In what is nothing short of staggering, there are currently no women CEOs at the helm of Silicon Valley’s biggest tech companies. With VMWare’s CEO and Founder, Diane Greene, having been ousted from the company in the last week, the official count of female CEOs is down to mind-blowing ZERO! And even outside of CEO positions, the number of women in C-level and other top level positions is very low according to The Mercury News.

If you want to get a first and fast look at some of the new startups in Silicon Valley that are showing off over at Startup Camp 5 here is the link to the “speed geeking” sessions where startups have 5 minutes to showcase themselves to small groups that travel from table to table.
The little startup pitches are usually fun and fast paced, and surprisingly you can usually get enough information in a few minutes to really understand the concept and implementation of even a large scale project.

Tech Party Keeps Rolling In Silicon Valley

I turn on the TV and all I hear about is high gas prices, rice shortages, mortgage crisis, the war in Iraq, and the elections. However, Silicon Valley seems to be in its own bubble. This year, I have practically been invited to at least 3 parties a week and I don’t see this stopping anytime soon. Here are some pictures from parties and events that I attended. I was fortunate to meet some of the rain makers in the valley.
