JellyCloud, one of the largest ad networks that delivers pop up ads, has shut down. About 36 people were laid off and Valleywag reports that liquidators repossessed their furniture over the weekend. The company had raised $50 million of which $11.5 million was raised just a few months ago. The nations top three ISPs have denied keeping tabs on customers’ internet activity in order to serve up more targeted online ads, but reserved the right to do so in the future.
AT&T, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon denied using online behavioral advertising and called on all Internet companies to adhere to standards that require customers to opt in to the tracking of their online activities.
A study released by the Consumers Union said 72 percent of Americans are concerned that their online behaviors were being tracked and profiled by companies.

The anticipated domain names of the recently merged Bank of America and Merrill Lynch are for sale on eBay. Website addresses bofalehman.com, bankofamericamerrilllynch.com, and bofaml.com have all been registered as potential domain names of the merged entity and are being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Clearly, the cybersquatter’s hope is to make a killing by selling the domain name(s) to the merged banks. VeriSign and other registries are set to increase their wholesale price of domain names effective October 1, 2008.
The new .com price will be $6.86. With ICANN’s 20 cent fee that means the minimum cost to your registrar is $7.06. .Net prices will be $4.23 before ICANN’s fee.

As the number of business users of social networks continues to increase, advertising expenditures will rise, too says eMarketer. In the US this year, advertisers will spend $40 million to reach a business audience on online social networks and it will reach $210 million in 2012.
