Ask.com has migrated off of their mapping platform and onto Microsoft’s Virtual Earth platform. Ask follows suit of many portal sites letting Microsoft make the heavy investments in infrastructure, imagery, photography acquisition, data updates, etc hence allowing them to focus on developing applications that benefit end users. Other portals incorporating Microsoft’s Virtual Earth include YellowPages.com, Superpages.com, and WhitePages.com among many.

A small town of 4,500 residents in Minnesota has told Google that its Street View feature can hit the road, reports CNET. Google’s Street View service displays images of street views from a driver’s perspective.
The private community of North Oaks, states on the city’s Web site, that their roads are privately owned, and a no-trespassing sign greets potential visitors to the city. City officials were “really unhappy” when images of their streets and homes appeared on the Google’s Maps.

Google Maps has teamed up with The Weather Channel to integrate weather details. So, if you’re planning a trip and don’t know whether to pack your Uggs or Oxfords, you can simultaneously get the weather information for your intended destination along with the directions.
From Google.com, type a city name, for example, and click “Google Search” and select “Maps” from the top left or from the search results. Today, Google Adwords, the Google advertising program where users choose keywords to create their own ads and advertise on Google SERP pages and ad network, has introduced a new feature called AdWords Local PlusBox. Local PlusBox provides mapping and tel info for local business ads appearing in the “Sponsored Links” section above the search results of a Google SERP page. Soon passengers’s on Virgin America will be able to know where they are thanks to Google. Virgin America, announced that Google’s map technology on all seat-back computer screens.
