Seven Reasons Why Prospects Don’t Buy From Your Website And What To Do About It
Teddi McDonald, a veteran Internet marketing specialist, discusses the challenges website owners face in selling to an anonymous market at the next WebGuild E-Business Perspectives SIG meeting. Prospective customers browsing websites don’t know the people behind the sites and are rather skeptical. Therefore, the primary goal behind each web site design and content is to provide a trusting environment for prospective customers.
Ms. McDonald’s presentation covers some of the reasons why prospective customers avoid on-line purchases and what you, a website owner, can do about it.
Ms. McDonald notes that the results of a survey completed by Ken Evoy (author of “Make Your Site Sell”), shows some very interesting statistics. He discovered the following reasons why people did not buy products from his website. (People answering the questions could choose more than one reason).
1) Price 79%
2) Trust and reliability 67%
3) Credit card concerns 65%
4) Privacy issues 58%
5) Navigation difficulty 35%
6) Delivery time too long 25%
7) Overcharging for shipping (McDonald added this one)
In her presentation, Ms. McDonald discusses each of the above reasons and how to deal with and overcome them. As a “veteran” of Internet marketing, she will also discuss other related topics from the audience including pay-per-click advertising and search engine optimization for high page rank.
