Are you interested in the research and development of next generation social media and mobile media applications? The team at Yahoo! Research Berkeley is looking for an experienced designer to join them in conceiving, building, iterating, and testing research and development prototypes. This is an opportunity to join a talented and collegial group of research scientists, engineers and interns.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for understanding user tasks, product requirements, creating concept scenarios and solutions, implementing frameworks and interaction flows. He or she also should have a strong understanding of the overall design process. Our dream candidate would also be experienced in creating interactive prototypes using a range of technologies.

Responsibilities include:
o Work with a strong team in concept development and design ideation
o Create detailed design and functional documents (personas, storyboards, workflows, and mockups) that explore application use cases and effectively communicate the information and interaction design for visual design, content and technical development.
o Participate in the design and execution of user studies, evaluate results and provide recommendations for iterative improvements.
o Develop low fidelity functional design prototypes to demonstrate proof of concepts and to enable rapid iterative support for evaluative design, and product development research.
o Collaborate with designers, researchers, developers and product managers to develop and refine high fidelity prototypes to accompany functional specifications and to be deployed for research into small, targeted, public communities.
o Provide leadership and mentorship for Design Interns.

Minimum Qualifications:
o Bachelor\'s or Master\'s degree in Human Factors, HCI, industrial design, or related area
o At least 5 years experience as a key member of a user interface team
o Mastery of UCD principles and solid interaction design skills
o Solid understanding of Web site design, and working familiarity with HTML
o Ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems
o Experience in collaboration as part of a multi-disciplinary team
o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
o Strong analytical and leadership skills
o Organized, able to act independently, and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Job Qualifications:
Proficiency interaction and rapid prototyping skills across a broad spectrum of technologies such as:

o Macromedia Flash/Flex, ActionScript 2.0
o Macromedia Director, Lingo, Director Xtras
o Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
o Visio
o HTML/XHTML/WAP
o CSS & DHTML (Advanced knowledge of DHTML, JavaScript and AJAX development a bonus)
o PHP/SQL
