Rearden is looking for a Principal Architect, User Experience who has a passion for designing easy-to-use, consumer-friendly web interfaces for our award-winning web service. It is critical for candidates to work well with other teams and to have a strong leadership presence. Candidates must be able to understand the balance of user experience, business case, and time-to-market, and make tradeoffs where appropriate.

This position gives you the chance to design and innovate with the latest technologies such as AJAX.

This position is a member of the User Experience & Product Design team and reports to the Senior Director, UE.

Responsibilities:

• Define the customer experience for existing and new site applications that establish and adhere to site conventions and standards.
• Understand customer needs, as well as business and functional requirements. Work closely with the user research and product management team to define product requirements.
• Create detailed design and functional specifications (storyboards, workflows, mockups, prototypes, specifications) that effectively communicate the information design and interaction design. Work with usability engineers to gather data on the designs and iterate.
• Collaborate with visual designers, content strategists and engineering teams to implement your designs.
• Responsible for creating and evolving the Rearden UE Style Guidelines to ensure consistency for the customer and faster development cycles for the team.

Required Qualifications:

• 5-10 years working as an interaction designer or information architect for web or software applications.
• Solid understanding of the fundamentals of user interface design; should have experience working through the entire product life cycle, and be familiar with user-centered design methods. Knowledgeable of best practices of all major best of breed web-based interfaces.
• A blend of big picture design ideas with detail orientation, and an obsession for consistency
• Logical, analytical thinking
• Good understanding of benefits and constraints of current Internet technologies. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DHTML, Flash. Proficiency with PhotoShop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Acrobat.
• Clear, organized writing, communication, and presentation skills
• Reasonable understanding of underlying technical issues
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or related field or equivalent work experience. Masters or other advanced degrees are a plus.
