Mobile Web Trends

Current global trends in the mobile industry are moving towards community and socialization, as well as adoption of new content and services. Mobile Social Software or "Mososo" is rising in awareness due to the MySpace revolution, Flickr, and integrated instant messaging. Location-based mobile solutions such as Sprint Family Locator and Wherify gives rise to directed audience segmentation and customized service offerings. With the rise of 3G in the U.S., the mobile web is finally becoming a reality - but are Americans willing to pay steep prices for high-speed connection? What content and services are people really using and how are companies such as Google, Yahoo!, and MySpace keeping up.

Interesting things about Mobile and the US Market:
  • Infrastructure has arrived - 3G networks in U.S., good quality phones with 1 GB or more of memory, good cameras, etc.
  • The next killer app will arrive in the coming 6-12 months, i.e. the "must-have" feature beyond voice and SMS (which were clearly the first two killer apps).
  • Phone as a device to enable social interactions, but not just 'social networking'. For example: you go to a concert, snap photos, and upload them. Can you see the photos from all 10,000 people who attended the same concert and who also shared their photos?
  • And more...
