How will Enterprise Search Improve in the Next 3 Years?
Andy Feit, Senior VP Marketing, Verity, Inc.
Andrew D. Feit joined Verity as the company's senior vice president of marketing in December 2002, as a result of the acquisition of Inktomi's enterprise search business, and was promoted to senior vice president of marketing in June 2003.
Feit brings more than 20 years of technology industry experience to Verity and is responsible for the company's worldwide marketing and product strategy. This involves the positioning of Verity's comprehensive product lines, including those acquired from NativeMinds and Cardiff Software.
Prior to joining Verity, Feit served as vice president of enterprise search solutions for Inktomi, where he was responsible for product strategy and marketing execution. Feit joined Inktomi from Quiver, where he served as chief operating officer prior to Inktomi's acquisition of the company in August 2002, and led the company into the enterprise market for taxonomy and classification software. In this role, he was responsible for engineering, product management, professional services, customer support and marketing, as well as strategic initiatives related to Quiver products and services.
Prior to Quiver, Feit served his first tenure at Inktomi as vice president of search software for Inktomi's Search Solutions Division. At Inktomi, Feit oversaw the strategy and positioning of the Inktomi Search Solutions suite of products and services. He joined Inktomi upon its acquisition of Ultraseek Corporation in July 2000.
During the preceding four years at Infoseek and its subsidiary Ultraseek, Feit served as general manager for the enterprise software division, responsible for all aspects of the company's software business, including development, marketing, sales, support and financial management.
Prior to Ultraseek, Feit was director and principal analyst at the market research firm Dataquest, covering advanced desktop technologies. Before Dataquest, he was product marketing manager for Digital Equipment's Workstation Division, where he was instrumental in the rollout of the company's Alpha-based systems.
Feit is a founding member of The Computer Museum in Boston, Mass., a member of the Leadership Circle of The Tech Museum in San Jose, Calif., and holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from Tufts University.
Matt Glotzbach, Business Product Manager, Google
Matthew Glotzbach joined Google in 2004 and is responsible for the
development and management of Google's enterprise product lines. Glotzbach
specializes in the unique business and technology needs of enterprise
customers and brings 7 years of enterprise product management, marketing,
and sales experience to the Google team. Prior to joining Google,
Glotzbach was a senior member of the management team for the Computer Industry
Business Unit at Trilogy, an enterprise software company based out of
Austin, TX. At Trilogy, he helped drive the company's product direction
and vision and acted as the lead product manager on a number of their industry
solutions. Glotzbach holds a Bachelor degree from Cornell University.
Laura Ramos, Enterprise Search Analyst, Forrester Research
Laura Ramos is an analyst covering unstructured data management software and technologies. Her areas of
research include:
-Enterprise portal software
-Information management, information retrieval and search
-Automatic classification technologies
-Taxonomy and classification system development
-Best practices for enterprise portal design and deployment
Laura has more than 19 years of experience in the design, development and marketing of both computer
hardware and software. Prior to joining Giga, she was the director of product marketing at Verity and a small
startup producing automatic classification technology. At both, she defined the product requirements for and
drove the launch of products that automatically classify text-based documents into a taxonomy of business
concepts. She has also held director positions at Resumix and Vitria Technology, where her interest in
automation software started when she defined and marketed products that automatically matched resumes to
job descriptions and produced business rules to automate information flow between back-office applications.
Laura’s previous positions included product management of middleware products and object-oriented
technology at Sybase and natively compiled RISC operating systems at Tandem, where she also held
positions in hardware development, management and computer-aided design.
Laura holds an M.B.A. from the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University and a B.S. in
mechanical engineering from Stanford University.
Miles Kehoe, President, New Idea Engineering, Inc.
Mr. Kehoe is the founder and president of New Idea Engineering, Inc. He is
the Editor of NIE Enterprise Search Newsletter. He also founded
Searchbutton, Inc. in 1999, the leading ASP for site search and reporting
solutions, and served as the Chairman of their Board of Directors. Prior to
NIE and Searchbutton, Mr. Kehoe served as sales engineering and consulting
manager for Verity, Inc., the world leader in search and retrieval
technology. Mr. Kehoe has also held development and support positions with
Fulcrum Technologies, Network Innovations, and Hewlett-Packard. Mr. Kehoe
received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology From Tulane University and did
graduate work in computer science at Purdue University. New Idea
Engineering was founded in 1996 to provide technical consulting, training,
and programming to companies implementing search technologies from Verity,
UltraSeek, Fulcrum Technologies, and Autonomy.
Paul Whitelam, Product Manager, Endeca
Mr Whitelam is Product Manager for Endeca's Enterprise Search technology.
With over 10 years' experience in technology strategy, he is responsible for
identifying market requirements and setting product direction for solutions
focused on enterprise information retrieval. A major part of Mr Whitelam's
role involves close liaison with customers, industry experts and
complementary technology vendors to understand evolving market requirements.
Prior to Endeca, Mr Whitelam worked as a consultant in the Financial
Services industry focusing on marketing and technology strategy .
