Topic: "How do people read on the Web? Results from the Stanford/Poynter Study"
Stanford Poynter Project

Abstract: What do people look at when they read on-line news? How much do they read of specific news sites? Do people look at banner ads? The Stanford/Poynter Eyetrack2000 Project analyzed typical users' eye-movements and surfing behavior as they read on-line news to answer these and other questions. The Poynter Institute, a journalism educational foundation, funded this study to learn how and what people read online. They hope that understanding actual user behavior will lead to better presentation of the news. Among the 211 different sites visited were the online versions of the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, MapQuest and other news and information sites. For more details, see: eyetrack2000
