I spoke with a Google product manager and a Samsung sales manager today. They were demoing the Samsung Galaxy without actually saying they were demoing it. They wanted people to stop by and ask questions. They wanted to make it seem like people were so interested in the product that they were coming up to them to ask questions about it out of curiosity. They were really selling but wanted to give the impression that theyn’t.
I work by Facebook and there are many startups and early adopters in the area. I guess they were trying to hook them in. The Google guy pretty much admitted to me that they were copying Apple all the way. He said Google is having a tough time convincing device makers to adopt chrome for tablets. The Samsung guy said one of the problems facing device makers was the ‘price’ point. None of them could make a device the size of the iPad, with a touch screen, with all the bells and whistles for the same price as the iPad. Hence they was no way for them to make a profit, despite the fact that the chrome OS was free.
Google employee said the company has lost focus. It has become all about copying Apple. Read more on why Google is losing focus.
Neither employee wanted their picture taken out of fear of being fired.
