HP To Exit PC Business

By Daya Baran at August 18, 2011 0 Comments    Share

Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), the world’s largest computer maker, plans to spin off its personal-computer business according to Bloomberg.

Hewlett-Packard may announce the plans as early as today, after it reports earnings.

Hewlett-Packard has been aiming to lessen its dependence on lower-margin PCs, where growth has stalled as consumers flock to tablet-style computers like those made by Apple (AAPL).

Apple is disrupting the entire technology stack. It’s doing to the PC and technology industry what it has done to the mobile industry.
