Android Owners Ready To Ditch Phones When iPhone5 Launches

By Daya Baran at August 01, 2011 0 Comments    Share

Piper Jaffray Smartphone Survey August 2011

Android owners have little loyalty and are more likely to ditch their phones than iPhone owners, according to a report from Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.

According to the survey, 94% of iPhone owners plan on buying another iPhone, while just 47% of Android owners plan on buying another Android phone. 42% of Android owners think they’re going to switch to an iPhone.

As for BlackBerry owners, 7% plan on buying an iPhone and only 26% expect to buy another.

The findings of the report are based on survey of 216 smartphone users in Minneapolis.

Munster also sees “pent-up demand” for the iPhone5 from Verizon customers because when the iPhone4 hit the carrier it was already six months old and many customers put off purchases opting to buy the iPhone5.

For these reasons, Munster thinks Apple’s share of the U.S. smartphone market will explode when the iPhone 5 hits Verizon’s shelves.

Here is the Piper Jaffray survey:
