In an ironic turn of events AOL India employees learned today that their jobs will be outsourced. What is even more ironic is that the jobs will be outsourced to contractors in the U.S., Europe and other Asian countries including India. By the end of the day, 700 AOL India jobs will be gone. AOL says that same work can be done by 200 staff today. I am not sure if that is as a result of technological advancement or if the work load has decreased. The only way this would make sense is that the contractors are making less than the India workers. Are U.S. wages dropped that much or is AOL using interns to fill the positions as rumored. AOL filed with the SEC that it expects the move to save $20 million.
