According to a source who attended the dinner with President Obama in Silicon Valley there was a lot of talk at the dinner table, mostly about nothing, just polite chatter. There was a sentence on job creation, some talk on India and China, but nothing earth shattering. Except, of course for Oracle CEO, Larry Ellison, who said to the President: “Everyone here (in this room) is replaceable except this guy“, and pointed to Steve Jobs. Apparently, the statement came out of nowhere, but that is typical Ellison – he is not afraid to say what’s on his mind – if you have ever attended Oracle World then you know what I am talking about. Apparently, after that there was silence and everyone went about eating their meals. Until the words “dessert anyone” was uttered.

And he was completely right. How screwed up is that? We need more people to step up and be the Steve Jobs of their respective industries.

Whaaa? Do you think Zuckerberg and Facebook are 'replaceable'? Maybe I'm just ignorant here. Can you explain someone?
Comment by Dayzed — March 4, 2011 @ 11:07 AM
@Dayzed: The comment means that Zuckerberg is replaceable, not that Facebook is replaceable. If Zuckerberg left Facebook tomorrow, no one thinks that the company would falter (for that reason, anyway).

Zuckerberg is replaceable. Facebook already exists. But Larry E's point is that Apple is not Apple without Jobs. Zuckerberg was there and made Facebook happen, if not him, someone else. But Jobs is Apple.

I couldn’t agree more. He’s the visionary of the last 20 years. The rest of the guys lead teams that have visionaries in them.
Ellison is the only one close to as visionary is him.

Steve Jobs brings his personality, his demand for perfection, and is RUTHLESS IN HIS QUEST for a perfect product. No one else is even close to having this mindset – it is so clear even in the commercials brought up by Apple, i.e., "hip, with hip actors," while the Windows "Cloud" commercials show these irritating families in matching, ugly striped shirts. Apple is cool, and Jobs knows how to potray cool. No one else in the business knows how to do it. The result of his perfectionism as well as his relatonship with Ives promises up years of ground-breaking products (as opposed to buggy, products made by others that cause us to spend hundreds on tech repair guys to restore harddrives, mostly caused by faulty code in operating systems. Ellison is right – we need to keep Steve Jobs alive as long as humanly possible!

Wow, what I would give to b a fly on the wall during this meeting! I'm sure even Obama was humbled with all the brain power and wealth in this room!
This is a pretty cool picture….Thanks for posting!

Brian power in the room? I'm sure that doesn't include Carol as she has proven nothing since joining Yahoo.
