Murder By Facebook: How Dharun Ravi & Molly Wei Killed Tyler Clementi

By Daya Baran at October 02, 2010 7 Comments    Share

This is a horrible story about how these two monsters Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei killed an innocent Tyler Clementi. Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei broadcasted Tyler Clementi having sex with another man. Clementi had asked his roommate Dharun for some privacy that evening. Dharun complied and hid his webcam in the room (without Clementi’s knowledge).

Ravi and Wei watched the whole incident from the next room and they broadcasted it on the web. They  Facebooked and Twittered it to all their friends and invited all their friends on the social sites to come join and watch the whole thing live. When Clementi learned about it he was horrified. He later killed himself. You can read more here and here

  2. You have to wonder how these two people don't consider themselves perverts. Watching a porno of your roommate having sex and inviting others to do the same? Wow. Next time try renting one. At least the people involved were paid for their performance. Quite frankly these two people are scum. And I hope this haunts them all of their lives.

  3. While it's probably worse than homicide and incredibly horrible, it's not murder. Relax on the hyperbole to increase credibility :)

  4. What an irony. The very social networking infrastructure that these morally reprehensible people used to get their kicks is what is bringing them down.

  5. They should be tried for murder.

  6. First of all, Tyler posted on Justusboys that he was confident that all they could have seen was him making out. Second of all, Ichat Invite was used which livestreams and does not record. 4 computers can connect in a video session and two were already used – one in Molly's room and on in Dharun's room. So unless the other two computers were hooked up to mass media, this did not, could not have been broadcasted on the internet. And if it was, it would have shown two guys making out. For anyone who has studied the cit2mo (Tyler Clementi) roommate spying thread in justusboys, beware that GMT+1 time is used. So subtract 5 (I think) hours from every post. I don't believe kids commit suicide because a few people see them making out, at least I hope not. There is a lot that could have happened that we do not know about yet – also when Tyler woke up in the morning after going to the RA he would have been greeted with replies on justusboys telling him what a mistake he made going to the RA before talking things over with his roommate. I think Tyler realized that his parents would discover his sexuality during the expulsion and legal processes – when Dharin countersues for anything he could make up.

  7. @ Pat C .. Regardless of whoever was making out. The fact they posted something online of someone without the persons consent is a crime. Would you want someone watching you make out? I feel like this was murder and nothing short of a homicide. Also lets just forget about the gay part and five other gay kids commiting suicide that month.Bullying is a widespread problem. Teacher ,adults and parents let people get away not knowing the implications of what its doing to the person being bullied and the bully himself.
