Price Floyd, the Defense Department’s first-ever chief of social media, is leaving the Pentagon next week.

Floyd helped the the Pentagon soften it approach to P.R. by encouraging its employees to use social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, blogs and other more freely. He also solicited followers’ opinions and starting discussions on a broader scale than was previously standard for the Pentagon.

It is not known what he will do next but he will start teaching a class on public diplomacy at D.C.’s George Washington University.
