Google Is The Sewage Factory Of The Web

By Daya Baran at July 29, 2010 2 Comments    Share

Over at Search Engine Land, Danny Sullivan says that Google is a sewage factory polluting the web with dirty garbage simply so that it can make money by displaying ads next to the dirty garbage.

He points out that one of the top “trending topics” on Google was the word “chocomize”. So he clicked the link Chocomize on Google Trends to see what it was about. Google Trends gave him a list of search results for the word “Chocomize”. When he clicked on the first link and it was to a page on a horror movies site reporting about chocolate bars. Still no explanation to why “Chocomize” was trending but Google Ads (see red arrow) appeared above the word “Chocomize”.

Second link on Google Trends was filled with in our face — Google ads. Still no explanation was give as to why Chocomize was trending. Sullivan says the results are supposed to be to sites with relevance to the trending term. Not so in this case they were to sites displaying Google ads for those words. pages

“That page isn’t adding any value to the web. If it didn’t exist, we wouldn’t be the less savvy about Chocomize. But thanks to Google Trends, we’ve got a big red flag up in front of publishers that wish to pollute Google’s results with this type of garbage.”

  1. Danny is 100% correct! Google's search engine algorithm and the AdSense product has encouraged publishers to create websites that auto produce content that sole purpose is to game the search engines and bring revenue to the publisher. This happens as the market for adsense publishers is inefficient.

  2. Content is the king and Danny is like the kid in the story yells: The king is naked.
