By Daya Baran at July 02, 2010 9 Comments    Share

Intel co-founder Andy Grove tells Bloomberg in a wide ranging interview what needs to be done to create jobs in America before it is too late. It is a long piece but it is a must read. I have tremendous respect for Mr. Grove, he is not only a great visionary, he has tremendous practical and operational experience building one of the worlds largest companies.  More>>

  1. I agree 100% with his assessment, but Andy the Great Capitalist arguing for socialism (Govt intervention, more taxes on businesses) and protectionism (tax offshoring)? Its hard to reconcile…is this the demise of the laissez faire economics in general and the truly free market American system in general? I'd be interested in hearing from others.

  2. It was disturbing to read his views "Levy an extra tax on the product of offshored labor." Why did he not do that when Intel was shipping jobs overseas?

  3. He came from a communist country – used capitalism to make money. Now the doesn't wasn't to pay the price for the capitalist system that made him rich – he want everyone to help pay for it. So he has become a communist again.

  4. Andy is not arguing for himself!! He has identified a problem of employment and loss of experience for future innovations. He is RIGHT. Acknowledge that first if it makes sense or you can criticize it. The solutions can be varied. I would suggest a different solution to the problems he has identified. Tax cuts and Cheaper financial capital like what Solyndra got for their solar panel manufacturing plant in Fremont is an example. That is almost a Free Capitalistic method. Pervasive incentives like these could bring the scale, manufacturing expertise, experience transfer, back in the US for future innovations.

  5. See my comments – answer to Daniel Tar. Andy has identified a problem. If you think that is a problem, then suggest your own solutions, if you do not like his solutions. I think taxes on imports is not as desirable as cheaper capital and tax incentives. I would rather see that than extending welfare, extending unemployment benefits, and wasteful government spending.

  7. It is a natural reaction and expected from the likes of Andy Groove who were in the midst of a Great American Technological Revolution of the 70's-90's. His suggestion sounds logical from a "protectionist" point of view but I would love if people like him can analyse and comment on the life style a common american enjoys (Large SUV's/ Money Back-guarantees, Try & Buy,A 100k pharamacist in every pharmacy) and more so the litigatory atmoshphere (Frivilous Sexual harrasment cases,short/long term disability etc etc).
I think there is an urgent need to cut costs at every level and work on the litigatory mindset . Americans have teh wherewithal to turn it around and just need help in allowing them to be productive. If these things happen we will see tons of "made in america" stuff and it will be a balanced world.

I realize that it is not simple as said but was just trying to drive home a point.

The internet is full of haters like you and you guys are just people whose parents havent raised them properly. Every one knows you are a bad worker and your company fired you, you just want to blame it on outsourcing. Get of your computor and get a job instead of crying in the internet.
