According to the Online Talent Report, demand for social media skills soared in the past year not just for marketers but also for developers, as businesses look to build applications that tap into social networks.

Businesses are increasingly seeing Social Media as an important marketing channel that requires development and ongoing monitoring. They are looking for developers to create applications to tap into social networks with Facebook Development and Social Networking Apps. Our Social Media Strategies conference is designed to meet this demand. Other areas that are in demand include mobile development, open source and cloud computing.

“Companies are turning to online talent for mobile development, open source, social media and cloud computing, making these the fastest growing skills in demand on Elance. In fact, businesses are finding it easier and more cost-effective to hire certain types of talent online, rather than onsite,” said Ellen Pack, Vice President of Marketing at Elance.

  2. Social Media is now the greatest weapon a small business has to get the word out about their products and services. A business that has no social media content is trending way behind in advertising efforts. companies like Starbucks ans Walmart have moved to the forefront of customer recognition through Social Media.
With the use of contest and questionnaires, these companies are taking maximum advantage of brand marketing to increase peer approval of their products and services.
The current KEI`s on this phenomenon themselves are not accurate as usage and implementations of Social Media strategies are changing and developing at an exponential rate.
