Electronic Arts said it would lay off 1,500 or 17% of its employees just as it reported earnings that fell short of expectations. The company said it will reorganize its business to focus more tightly on its best-selling video games and digital media businesses. The layoffs will be completed by March 31 and will result in cost savings of $100 million and one-time charges of $130 – $150 million. A year ago, EA laid off 1,000 of 10,000 employees. Since then EA has laid off about 25% of its workforce.
