Lot of unhappy Adobe employees today. Some emailed and posted on social networking sites even before the company could make an official announcement. The company is laying off approximately 680 employees or 9% of its workforce. Last December, Adobe laid off 600 workers (or 8 percent of its staff) due to the recession.
In a filing with the SEC Adobe provided the following explanation.
“Adobe is restructuring its business to align costs with its fiscal 2010 operating plan and budget, the company’s three-year strategic priorities and the realities of the business environment, as well as to ensure its ability to continue investing in long-term growth opportunities,” the spokesperson continued. The advisory we received also noted that at the close of its acquisition of Omniture, Adobe reduced the Web analytics firm’s work force by 9 percent.
Adobe’s announcement comes right on the heels of Microsoft layoffs eliminating 800 employees. Electronic Arts also announced layoffs totaling over 1500 workers.
