PHP people Zend have bought unlikely cloud providers Microsoft (PaaS), IBM, Rackspace (IaaS) have come together to launch the Simple Cloud API. The promise of a SINGLE API across Windows Azure, Rackspace Cloud Files, Amazon SimpleDB is very compelling for Application Builders and the Cloud Providers alike. This is the first effort towards a framework that bridges IaaS, PaaS and SaaS cloud camps. It would be interesting to see how VMware’s vCloud API plays into this.
