Tech Chiefs To Run For California Governor

Silicon Valley veterans are beginning to set their sights on the California capital.

Former eBay Inc. Chief Executive Meg Whitman is the latest, having stepped down from three corporate boards in anticipation of a gubernatorial run, people close to her say. She joins fellow Republican Steve Poizner, a former high-tech entrepreneur, and Democrat Steve Westly, a former eBay executive, as possible contenders to replace Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who must leave office in January 2011 because of term limits.

Meanwhile, Chris Kelly, chief privacy officer and head of global public policy for Facebook Inc., the fast-growing Palo Alto, Calif.-based start-up, is planning to run for state attorney general, according to people familiar with the matter. More>>
