Obama’s Silicon Valley Man Is Oprah’s Mystery Guy

By Reshma Kumar at November 09, 2008 5 Comments

Sam Perry, Barack Obama Campaign Unless you were under a rock and I was semi- under one in the last week regrouping from the Conference, we all saw the newly elected President, Barack Obama’s, acceptance speech on TV with Oprah Winfrey crying on the shoulder of an obliging gentleman. As it turns out, the talk-show queen had no idea who this kind stranger was on whose shoulder she took comfort. Well, we did! He is, in fact, Sam Perry with the Barack Obama campaign office. Sam accepted, on behalf of BarackObama.com, the Best Web 2.0 Politicking Website Award from the WebGuild at our Web 2.0 Conference in January. We were thrilled to have him.

Sam was with the Palo Alto office of the campaign. He is a former Reuters reporter and a VC. He has been thrust into the spotlight with everyone including Oprah asking who he was. She has since invited him onto her show where she became acquainted with her “Mr. Man” as she referred to him.

Great social media work on the Obama campaign…but it was more than the strategy, it was the true vision behind it, as detailed here:

Harnessing the power of people is the new reality, whether in business, politics, or any movement in life.
