Another Social Network Bites The Dust
By Reshma Kumar at June 08, 2008 1 CommentsYet another social networking site you’ve probably never heard of is - alas - shutting down. Following in the footsteps of Conde Nast and Verizon’s social networking communities, Monster.com’s personal networking community site, Tickle, is closing it’s doors. The company provides interpersonal content and services (self-discovery, matchmaking, career and social networking).
Silicon Alley Insider is reporting the story. Tickle apparently sent this email out to its 17 million members:
We will be shutting down Tickle as of June 30th 2008. You will no longer be able to access your saved test results after that date. If you would like to keep your test results, please print them out before that date. Many thanks for your understanding! … There is no action required from your side, you don’t have to delete your user account or cancel your subscription; Tickle will do this for you.
It appears that everyone is tickled out. Take a final gander:

Several comments:
* Having worked at Monster, there was great scepticism about the aquisition back in 03/04. It seemed half-baked.
* That said, I find it hard to believe that Monster could not find a potential buyer for Tickle. Simply shutting down the site - with 17 million registered users - seems like a clear case of fiduciary neglect. Who’s in charge over there? Does the board not have a responsibility to shareholders to ensure that managment provide a return on investment?
