Web 2.0 Versus Desktop Office Suites
In a survey of U.S. PC users who were asked if they had heard about online, browser-based office productivity applications, it turns out that 73% had never heard of them. The remainder had heard of online office tools such as Google Docs & Spreadsheets, gOffice which allows you to create Word docs on your iPhone, Zoho, etc. and tried them.

I think the transition to online will be slow, but also will be inevitable. Few realize how powerful online aps have become, and even fewer are willing to part with old habits and legacy files. I'll use Excel over Google spreadsheet mostly because I'm more familiar with it, even though I know I'll never upgrade my MS stuff again - rather slowly obsolete all those aps in favor of online equivalents.
